Proper Balance

Dear Mater Dei Community,

With our third year coming to a close, we are preparing for fundraisers, class trips and dinner events. Keeping the focus on academics is tricky as summer approaches, but we do our best to keep a proper balance at Mater Dei. In this month’s newsletter we share about a few end of the year activities, both academic and social. We also invite you to join us for our upcoming fundraising drive! Our Mater Dei community is growing and we are blessed by your continued support. Thank you and may God bless you.

Day-to-Day at Mater Dei

As an end of the year activity, each literature class hosted an evening of presentations for parents. There was a good turnout each night! The freshman class presented on themes from the Iliad and The Great Dialogues of Plato. Sophomores presented on The Divine Comedy, Beowulf, The Song of Roland, and The Canterbury Tales. The junior Modern Literature class was divided into groups to present on Crime and Punishment, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, My Ántonia, The Great Gatsby, and Brave New World.

Students had the opportunity to get together outside of school hours for pizza and bowling. One highlight of this outing was the amazing feat of a student bowling through the legs of five other students....and getting a strike! Another amazing feat was how quickly they consumed ten large pizzas.

Service Project

For the April service project, students assisted Greysolon in Duluth with a variety of projects, including folding napkins, polishing silverware, assembling marketing materials and cleaning the ballroom. They also received a tour and etiquette lesson from Jax Eisenmann, Director of Sales. She taught them about place settings, table manners, dining decorum, and how to carry themselves with confidence and poise. These skills will be put into practice during their upcoming semi-formal dinner event, Mater Dei in the Night: the highly anticipated, second-annual, murder mystery dinner for Mater Dei students, hosted at Greysolon.

Fundraising Drive

May 13th is our one-day fundraising drive for Mater Dei Apostolate—Mater May Day! May 13th is also the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. Please join us on this special day to support our mission to provide higher education prep that is affordable, accessible and authentically Catholic. Next year will be our first year with a full 9-12th grade high school! Our goal is to raise $12,000 to build out a fourth classroom with technology. To donate, visit the homepage of our website on May 13th and click the campaign link. Thank you for helping us grow!

Mater Dei students and staff produced a fun video to promote the fundraising drive. They are pretty convincing. Take a look for yourself and please spread the word.
