MATER DEI IN THE NIGHT
Students of Mater Dei, you are cordially invited to the second annual Mater Dei in the Night, a dinner party with a twist. Often described as a live-action version of the game Clue!, this is a themed dinner with a mysterious murder at the center of the story. The event will be hosted at Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth which, in our fictitious story, is “Devonshire Manor in Pinehorn”.
Each guest will be assigned a fictitious character (you’ll receive your character profile the week of the dinner). Guests should remain “in the personality of their character” throughout the evening, which will consist of guided activities and clues to potential motives of various guests. Part way through the evening, one guest will be revealed as the murder victim. Thereafter, the sleuthing commences to figure out “who done it”. An award will be given to those who guess correctly at the end of the night.
The required dress code for the evening is semi-formal. Don’t know what that means? Don’t worry. Check out the requirements and guidelines HERE.
RSVPs must be submitted no later than May 6th to Mrs. Mullen through your Schoology account. This dinner party has been graciously provided by anonymous donors who want you to have a well-deserved night out to celebrate your school year. Please say a prayer of thanksgiving for our generous benefactors and we’ll see you soon!
PLOT SYNOPSIS
The Devonshire Manor is an 18th-century mansion built by the Devonshire family. In their day, the Devonshires were beloved and treated as royalty, as they owned more than half of the town. The last remaining Devonshire lineage passed away in the early 1900s, leaving the estate in the hands of the Pinehorn citizens.
The property has exquisite architectural features, albeit weathered throughout the years. Weeds and high grass have replaced the flowering shrubs and ornamental trees that once adorned the grounds. The townspeople have neglected to keep up with the manor, mostly due to the legend that the Devonshires still roam the corridors at night.
The mayor of Pinehorn has made it her quest to clean up the estate and have it declared a historical landmark. She believes that the manor can generate tourism as a bed and breakfast. Most of the townspeople stand behind her, although some are adamantly against her pursuit as they believe the estate is haunted and should be left alone.
The mayor is hosting a fundraiser bash for the townspeople of Pinehorn at the manor. She hopes to raise enough funds for her remodeling endeavors. You have been invited to attend the event. This is where your story begins.
