Field Trip to St. Paul

For our field trip this year, we will be traveling to the Cathedral in St. Paul on Wednesday, May 25th. We will start off with lunch at Red Cow Restaurant in St. Paul, and then walk to the Cathedral. The walk will take us through a beautiful area with historical mansions and parks along the way, including the James J. Hill House. Mr. Niemann will be our tour guide! This is his neighborhood and he knows it well. We will end with a guided tour of the Cathedral. The Church grants a plenary indulgence to those making a pilgrimage to the Cathedral.

The dress code for the day is to wear your Mater Dei t-shirt with the icon of Mary and Jesus. Other than that, you may be out of uniform. Keep in mind that we will be at Mass in the morning, and we will also be spending time in the Cathedral, so clothing should be neat, clean, and appropriate....no holes in jeans, etc. If shorts are worn, they must be no more than three inches above the knee. Also, be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

We will be placing our lunch order the day before the trip so it will be ready when we arrive at the Red Cow Restaurant for our reservation at 11:00. Please take a look at the lunch menu, and submit your order to Mr. Lemke on Schoology by Tuesday, May 24th.

Red Cow Menu

Cost for the charter bus is $50 per family. Please make this payment to Mr. Lemke, along with your lunch payment, by Tuesday, May 24th.

As this field trip is taking place during a regular school day, all students are expected to attend, barring extenuating circumstances. The itinerary is as follows:

7:30 - Opportunity for Confession at Holy Family Church
8:00 - Mass at Holy Family Church
8:30 - Departure for St. Paul
11:00 - Lunch at Red Cow
12:00 - Walking tour and park visits
1:30 - Cathedral tour
2:30 - Departure for Duluth
5:00 - Estimated arrival at Holy Family Church

Looking forward to a fun trip!

Mater Dei in the Night

Mater Dei in the Night

Students of Mater Dei, you are cordially invited to the second annual Mater Dei in the Night, a dinner party with a twist. Often described as a live-action version of the game Clue!, this is a themed dinner with a mysterious murder at the center of the story. The event will be hosted at Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth which, in our fictitious story, is “Devonshire Manor in Pinehorn”.

Each guest will be assigned a fictitious character (you’ll receive your character profile the week of the dinner). Guests should remain “in the personality of their character” throughout the evening, which will consist of guided activities and clues to potential motives of various guests. Part way through the evening, one guest will be revealed as the murder victim. Thereafter, the sleuthing commences to figure out “who done it”. An award will be given to those who guess correctly at the end of the night.

The required dress code for the evening is semi-formal. Don’t know what that means? Don’t worry. Check out the requirements and guidelines HERE.

RSVPs must be submitted no later than May 6th to Mrs. Mullen through your Schoology account. This dinner party has been graciously provided by anonymous donors who want you to have a well-deserved night out to celebrate your school year. Please say a prayer of thanksgiving for our generous benefactors and we’ll see you soon!
